knead（ニード）

to press and stretch dough, wet clay, etc. with your hands to make it ready to use

knead は、”手でこねる”英単語。
生地や粘土などを、手で揉んでほぐしてこねます。

First, knead the dough until soft and smooth.
「まず、生地が柔らかく滑らかになるまでこねます。」

Second, knead the dough for about five minutes.
「次に、生地を５分間ほどこねます。」

She is kneading the dough for doughnuts.
「彼女はドーナッツを作るため生地をこねている。」

knead into ...　（〜に練りこむ）
knead together　（練り合わせる）

マッサージする
こねるのは生地や粘土だけではありません。
筋肉をこねて揉みほぐす、つまり”マッサージする”意味にも。
